Past Holidays Workshops

Here are some of our past holidays workshops!

  • Holidays Fun Science : Build Your Own Periscope!

In this workshop, children were challenged and guided by our experienced facilitator to explore and think about the following phenomenon :

    1. What are the situations in which we can’t see?  Through that children learnt that light travels in a straight line.
    2. What are the things that let light through?  What are things that block all light?  What are things that let some light through? By doing their own experiment, children learnt the concepts of “transparent”, “translucent” and “opague”.
    3. What happens when light is blocked by a shiny material like mirror? The concept of reflection will be discovered through their own inquiry.

The activities and experiments culminated in the final activity whereby every child built their own periscope using mirrors and cardboards.

Here are some feedback directly from the children who attended the workshops :

"Teacher, I'll hold my pee, let's do the experiment first!!!"

"This is so fun! Why is it you don't have class everyday?"

  • Kitchen Science Holidays Workshop : Cupcake Baking

In the workshop,  the children not only learnt to bake their own cupcakes from scratch, they were also be guided to explore the concepts behind the following phenomenon:

Why does the cupcake dough rise up during baking?
What makes our cupcakes soft and springy?
What happens when we mix vinegar with baking powder?

Through a side experiment, children were challenged and guided by our experienced facilitators to find out the answers to the above questions and the link between them.
