In 1997, the Ministry of Education introduced the "Thinking Schools, Learning Nation" initiative. The then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong announced that "it is the capacity to learn that will define excellence in future, not merely academic achievement".

Hence, as tomorrow’s global citizen, a child must do more than just learn facts. To be successful in life, a child needs to be developed in their critical and creative thinking abilities, to enable them to reflect more deeply into what they are learning, regardless of the subjects.
